Is Online Poker A Sport?
With the recent popularity explosion of online poker and televised poker, a lot of people are wondering if it actually is a sport, or if it is just a “competitive activity”. This can be argued over for a very long period of time, but it is now generally accepted that poker is a sport.
While Texas Holdem and Omaha hi poker don’t require any special equipment, and the success you have is not directly related to any specific physical attribute, they are a form of sport, and require many of the same skills that a football, basketball or hockey player would need.
Many people only examine the physical aspect of a game to determine if it is a sport. But, all sports require concentration, focus, dedication and patience. Poker is no different. Go read any poker blog, any poker news site or visit the website of a poker school. They all have sections dedicated to the mental aspect of the game. Without this, no player can be successful.
However, that is not to say that poker players don’t need any physical attributes to be successful. If you have never played in real poker rooms, or have played a very long online session, you will not know the amount of self control and physical fitness required to sit still for hours on end, while not giving away any tells, and exploiting the edge you have over the game. It is not easy.
Playing poker online is just like playing a sport. Head over to Littlewoods poker and try playing today. You may never win the Stanley Cup, the Super Bowl or the NBA Pendant, but online poker is one sport that anyone can succeed at, as long as they have the required skills and qualities.
